The Spanish Pavilion was one of the Exhibitions major attractions, even though the building was small in size compared to the monumental buildings of the Soviet Union and Germany. The Pavilion was designed by Jose Luis Sert with the assistance of Luis Lacasa. Opening was at the 12th July 1937. The sculpture from Alberto Sanchez Perez was placed next to the entrance, producing a counterpart to the massive monumentals and the plump (classical) sculptures of the totalitarian states Soviet Union, Germany and Italy. Its inscription was: "The Spanish people have a path, it leads to a star" [ more pictures of Perez' sculpture, opens in same windows ] [ poster and inscription over the entrance, opens in same window ] |
